This is another recipe I have seen several times on various food sites. And it’s another I didn’t believe would work so I had to try. I didn’t think Mountain Dew soda would be good (maybe because I don’t like it). I thought it would add a nasty flavor to the dumplings (you couldn’t even taste it) and I thought the dumplings would be soggy (they were not).
I did change the recipe a little bit. I thought there was way too much sugar so I used less than half of what was called for in other recipes. I also added a little spice and a crunch to the top for texture.
These are very simple to put together and they were delicious when they were warm so I definitely recommend serving them before they come to room temperature. They were kind of bready once they sat. They lost all appeal to me at that point. Although, they probably could have been reheated. I didn’t try.
You definitely want to serve these with ice cream so it can melt into the dumplings. Oh yeah!
This is one of those recipes you can get the kids to help with. I love opportunities to get the kids in the kitchen. You will create great memories and they will develop a love of cooking.
See the goodness? Warm, comforting, gooey deliciousness! The crispy edges are the best!
